Petrol pump.

I have been given an SU petrol pump. It looks identical to the one on my Minor, but I understand that some pumps need to be situated near the tank and others, like the Minor, under the bonnet. I'm told that these pumps do look the same but aren't inter-changeable.
Can anybody tell me how to work out which I have?
There are two numbers on it. AUA 66 on a sticker on the plastic points cover and AUA 4080 on the alloy end.

If it looks the same as the one on your car - it should be fine. Try it!

Not at all!
The Mini pump, which looks the same is "short pull, long push!
It will struggle to do "long pull, short push" that the Minor needs.
No idea how the difference is accomplished within the pump, but I've been there and done that.

According to the SU Reference Catalogue AUA66 is the correct pump for a 948/1098 Minor. AUA4080 isthe body part no.

The Mini pump doesn't look ANYTHING like the Minor pump - hence my comment 'if it looks the same etc'

...but the MGA pump, also AUA4080, looks exactly the same and is short pull long push!

The MGA uses an AZX 1331, 1332 or AUA157
The Minor 1000 is the only car to use an AUA66 pump

Originally the MGA used the AUA54 replaced later in production by AUA154. These are no longer manufactured, hence the AZX numbers listed. The problem is that it looks identical to the minor pump and there is often no part number other than AUA 4080 on the casting!

Slight exaggeration I think, the one I was sold, many years ago, by a duplicitous breaker probably, looked quite like this;[frame]

Except I think it had threaded posts in exactly the right place to bolt to the battery box.

Yes - that's a Mini pump - no use on a Minor. The only difference in all these pumps is in the valving.... Chances are the MGA pump will work fine in a Minor. And of course they will ALL work fine if mounted low down in the engine bay - which will minimise (probably eliminate) the 'vapours' in hot weather.
