oil in brake drum?

Hi again
This time my problem is in the brakes. I took off the brake drum to discover A pool of oil at the bottom of it. The oil smells a lot like diesel and is a dark green/ black in colour. I'm pretty sure that it isn't brake fluid, and it seems to be coming from behind the hub. Here are some pics:[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]
so is the grease or whatever is behind the hub leaking out, or has the brake cylinder leaked before and they never cleaned it up? Im just curious,
Many thanks
Chris

looks like the hub gasket might be leaking, the oil is probably axle oil.

easily fixed though, a new paper gasket, a small smear of gasket sealant and job done.

Replace gasket and tighten half shaft onto hub using wheel nuts. Then fit and tighten set screws

Later mod fits a large diameter O ring in there - between hub flange and half-shaft flange. The diff may be overfilled - or the breather on top of the casing may be blocked. If the oil is on the shoes - they will need replacing too.
