Is there anyone with a Series MM with the engine out who could photograph and measure an engine mount tower.
An MM owner in India wants to refit the side valve bits in his recently aquired MM and has to make a new pair of towers. I cannot find any diagrams in the parts books

Thank you Mr Wimor for the detailed pictures, now it gives me a clear picture.
I request you to send the dimension details and the bend angles so as tomake it perfect.
if iam not wrong the aluminium seating of the engine is angled at 45 degrees.
A correct measurement( height/width/angle) will help me in proper alignment along with the gearbox.

Top corners 90 deg. Difficult to measure the dimensions with the engine in the car, you will also need the positions of the bolt holes.

Hello Mike,

Had a loolk at the engine foundation and measured it says 45 degrees ( as shown in yellow arrow or green arrow in the sketch)
If the top corners are 90 degrees for the mountings then as per the geometry the blue colour degrees hold good for the mounting towers. if they are correct then, i would need the dimensions only.

The rubber pad has only one stud thread at the top and bottom. The towers are also shorter than the M1000 towers

Yes i agree with you, my mistake - i realised once i drew the sketch.
hope i get the dimensions for the towers.
As i had mentioned earlier on the history of the engine that the original SVH engine was removed and misplaced by aelderly friend of my father. later it was fit with herald/triumph engine, later we located another SVH engine along with its gerabox,please see attached pic of the engine serial number.
i belive this is another series MM SVH engine.

I also noticed after cleaning the engine that there are 2 numbers of gaskets at the head (see pic) - your advice and suggestions please on it. [frame][/frame]

the carburettor-rebuilt with the service kit and the distributor in place and then the oil pressure connections in place would want to crank the engine and see for any abnormalities.
Meanwhile iam waiting in anticipation for the 2 books that i have ordered from MMOC.

The engine is a USHM2 1948-50. Should only have one head gasket, check that the head is flat

that means i have to open the cylinder head to inspect the reason why they have used 2 no's gasket.
If it isn't flat at the seating area or worn out then do i need to go for another spare head for the engine?

came across another problem, looks like while fixing the triump engine the gerabox cross members is moved by few inches behind. what is the distance from the front chasis end to the gear box cross memer centre point or the distance to the first bolt hole ?

I would advise soaking the head studs with penetrating oil and carefully removing the nuts, trying not to break any studs.
The engine does not look as if it has been used for a long time. If it has oil in it then I would tip it upside down so that oil soaks into all the moving parts, then strip the engine. If the head is warped then it can be shaved back to flat.
Bolt the engine and gearbox together and measure from the engine mounts to the gearbox mounts. Check this against the floor pan and you will probably find the original bolt holes with captive nuts.

A college will make a technical drawing of the mounting with the exact dimensions.

I have ordered new studs but the length of the studs on engine side is to short. The length of the stud is 16mm. Thickness case timing gear is 10mm as a result of 6 mm is available for nut and washer. A normal nut is 8 mm high. So it isn’t possible to use a nut on a correct way (using the complete thread) .The other side stud has a good length.
See the photo of the new and old one. So you can see the original mounting has one long stud with a length of ca. 25 mm. The stud on the other side is the same as the new one and Oke

ESM says that they are currently developing these mounts with more stud length but it will be a while before they are available.

looking at the situation at my end, i need the following to get it to original .
1) I need a cross member to fit my series MM having USHM2 gearbox.( the existing one was modified beyond rebuilt to fix now
2) original radiator .

please advice whether these are availble at our club spares or any other sources.
tried looking from the the spare suppliers as found in minor matters but could not find one to fit the series MM.

I don't know where you will find a gearbox cross member unless someone has changed one to fit an A Series engine and box and still has the MM crossmember lying around, alternatively if you had an A Series crossmember and the photos of a Series MM one, you may be able to adapt it.
For the radiator try Bryan Gostling, MMOC club spares or a wanted notice on this website

Had a detailed look on the cross member, it is possilbe touse the same but with new welded side limbs will post photo once done. yes as informed by you, i measured the distance from the gearbox mount holes to engine mount holes. with this i will be able to reposition the crossmember on the chasis. for the radiator i shall contact clubspares for the radiator.
