Hi,
Can anyone please tell me how often a K&N filter requires oiling?
On low annual mileage cars like most of ours cleaning seems to
rarely necessary,so how often do we need t oil?
Any suggestions?

i clean mine when it looks black! or whenever i think 'gawd it's be a long time since i did that'. whichever comes first
i'm not sure there's a specific mileage, as it depends how mucky the air is that it's filtering. if you do about 9,000 miles a year like me, you could make it part of an annual service (just before the mot's due!). it'd probably cope a lot longer than that, but it's good for peace of mind.
Vizard flow tested a very clogged up (500 mile desert race) K&N and found it to flow marginally better than a brand new coopers paper filter (best flowing paper filter available). so a dirty K&N will still be an improvement!

iirc the dirty filter is presumed to be more effective as it uses the sand/much as an additional filter medium

K&N used to reccomend every six months with there filter oil as the point of the filter is to help the engine breathe better.I used to blow mine out with an air line at the local garage then re oil

high pressure air or even high pressure water can apparently distort the filter element. i use the K&N cleaner, which you spray on and leave to soak for 10 mins or something, then run under a low pressure tap washing from inside to out.
