I've heard of it being done, although more spcifically it was an 803 on an MM box. One of the cars on Ebay has a 1098 and the owner says it still has the MM box in position.
Anyone seen it being done?

It does not sound very likely, the bell housings are different shapes, the MM flywheel and clutch are recessed in the housing, the bolts are in different positions, the Morris and Austin boxes are different designs etc etc. Why bother?????
The only positive is the MM is a better box

If you had a choice of 803 box or MM box then I guess the MM would win every time. I wonder if he has some sort of bell housing spacer to space the MM box off of the 1098 backplate? The MM box has a round bolt pattern so maybe it IS possible to redrill the 1098 backplate and mate them up?
The other alternative is that what he has got is a 1098 on an 803 box and that the magic wand gearstick has him confused. He tells me he uses EP90 in the box and that it doesn't have synchro on second. It is the black MM on ebay.

I'm glad you suggested that as that was the first thing I though of...

I've run a 948 on an 803 box (very briefly) and was glad to get rid of that box due to the awful ratios, let alone that they aren't very strong.

In theory you could chop half the bell housing off a later gearbox and add it on to the MM box short bell housing, but I would be amazed if anyone went to that effort instead of just using a later gearbox.
