waxoyl straight to old underbody

Hi. I was toying with the idea of brushing waxoyl straight to underbody. Its not been taken to bare, rust treated and painted yet. It has underseal and usual rust rash in places yet I am concerned with taking her out in wet without any protection on there. Can wire brush and waxoyl her. Will waxoyl stop or slow the rust right down or would it still rust underneath, is it a good idea or not. Box sections get blasted with it so was thinking of doing this for now and how easy is it to grind off or is it a mess when taking back to bare metal any experience on this?

Waste of time really - sort out any rusty patches properly.

waxoil and dinitrol do have rust inhibiters in and are also salt resistant

The catch is that waxoyl is flammable, when welding needs doing it will be a liability.
They don't go rotten in a year or two, so don't think that it is rotting away underneath you every day.
I'd suggest keeping it as dry and well aired as possible and replacing the underseal with chassis paint or Smoothrite.

my car was ziebarted from new and i certainly would not hack that all off, and mine is outside all year and in everyday use

1. what's ziebart and what's its constituent elements?
2. was ziebart on all moggies?

1 why wouldn't you hack it all off? simply too much hassle and work? not needed? would you just wire brush that and re apply?

with a mop disc, i can get to bare metal, so maybe cleaning up the worst areas then priming will hold it back a bit for now until i can get her up in the air.

ziebarting was used in the 70`s as an extra ion a lot of garages ,
its like an underseal

i did take some off the chassis legs and the metal was perfecxt underneath
so thats why i wont be hacking it off

its lasted 40 years and kept the underside and inner arxhes like new

my car only needed a drivers under cill repair and mine was never garaged but allways on the road being used so i guess thats the reason i will leave it on

Putting waxoyl on old underbody with some underseal, bare paint and rust patches won't do any harm, might be an idea to get the flaky stuff off first and then apply the waxoyl. It will help slow the rusting process, although the much better option is to get rid of the rust and paint before applying underbody wax.

It is cavity wax that is inside a box section that is being welded to that can cause problems rather than surface waxoyl which will come off with a bit of solvent/panel wipe before you decide to make proper repairs.
