Hi, I know this isn't THE BEST gun in all the world but will it do the job? How do they work? Do you need a compressor for this type or is it a kind of pump to pressurise device? Your comments will be appreciated.

The answer, if you are looking for a gun to respray a car is yes. It is better than the one I have, and I'm happy with the
finish I'm getting.

Yes you will need a compressor. If you look at the handle, there is a screw thread. This is where the hose from the compressor screws on. The air pressurises the container and forces the paint up a feed pipe, part of the air feed also goes to the nozzle where it vapourises the paint giving a fine mist. It isn't really the gun that is the issue it is the output of the compressor. The higher the output the more consistent the delivery of paint will be. Even paint delivery is everything when looking for a good finish. For a reasonable home compressor you are looking at about £300. A worthwhile expense if you are looking to do a car, total cost of the paint would be about £100-200. Plus you have the satisfaction of having done it yourself. Mine has paid for itself several times over, just about to spray my 4th car. Plus you can use it with other tools, air blast, sand blast, tyre inflation, wrenches etc.

A word of warning. It will be fine for use with cellulose paint. If you want to spray two pack, you will need a second compressor. Two pack causes vapours which are highly poisonous, so you will need an air fed mast, which need to be connected to the second compressor, which in turn needs to be outside the place you are spraying (out in fresh air).

Yes - my Aldi compressor is fine. Quite noisy - so sit it outdoors round the corner for heavy use - don't want it sucking in paint thinner fumes anyway. It used to come with a useful bundle of tools etc...... You will need hose etc - and the air filter/regulator will be handy (but not essential) for spray painting. The impact wrench has been the most useful thing for me - as well as the spray gun of course.

Yes, that will be fine. 9.5cfm is the important figure. That is 9.5 cubic feet per minute of output.
I would say the minimum you would need would be 7.5, 14 would be ideal, but would cost a lot more.

Most of the cheap compressors come with coiled plastic hose, which is quite thin. I would invest in some
straight stuff, usually comes in hose pipe type sizes and lengths but is easier to deal with when you are
moving round the car. It doesn't try to catapult you back towards the compressor

As for nozzle - whatever comes with the gun will be fine.........probably.
