A guy locally has a Type 9 gearbox for sale at a reasonable price. I think there are two versions of the type 9 with different lengths of input shaft but does anyone know which one I need before I waste anytime as although it's local it's still an 80mile round trip. Cheers

you want the shorter first motion. i think there are ~7 inch first motion, and ~9 inch. also see if you can get one with a guide tube over the first motion, it could come in handy if using a roller release bearing

It depends what its for. I Have the v6 variant with the slightly longer input shaft i believe as its stronger and has slightly different gear ratio's i believe.

yeah good point, the one i was refering to would be the more commonly needed one for fitting to an a-series with an off-the-shelf bell housing.

Standard procedure amongst the Ford people is to carefully trim down the input shaft and splines by about 10mm on the longer shaft. Some of the 2.8 boxes are stronger and all have a higher 1st gear.
