exhaust diverter valve

Hi all,

Im building a bit of a mad project, as part of the project I am planning on having a dual exhaust with a valve to block off the loud one for every day driving.
At the moment Im swaying towarts either a massive ball valve (£30 for 3")
or a cast one that is designed for the job (£70 only up to 2 1/4")

In either case they will be servo operated.

The ball vave has a brass body, will that tolerate the heat of a tuned V6?

I will probably only need 2 1/4" or 2 1/2"

Can anyone think of any alternatives?

I seriously doubt the ball valve will take the temperature. The 'ball' will have rubber/plastic seals...........

An exhaust brake would seem like the obvious solution!

Search 'exhaust cutouts' on the net.

Couldn't you use a butterfly that opens with throttle?

yeah, you could find a throttle disc from a big carb or modern throttle body, and make your own butterfly valve.

i was thinking about doing this to my exhaust too a while back, but i couldnt find much on the internet about it and i think it would be hard as hell to make.

there are some high performance production cars with noise reduction valves in their zausts...
However I doubt that would be a low cost solution.
