Morris Minor Owners Club.
South Wales Branch.

Daffodil Run Sunday 6th March.

Towards the end of 2010. Planning was well in hand for events that our South Wales branch could partake. Last year we started the season off with a Spring Run around the Wye Valley. To help us get in the swing of things I organised a spring run with a theme. What splendid way to show our cars off to everyone would be to have them photographed amongst spring flowers? What better flower than our own National emblem the Daffodil? Our members were asked to dress our vehicles with daffodils.

Being the first event of the year it was thought that we could have a short journey around Cardiff. I planned a short route from our meeting place (The Barn) to Roath Park and its splendid boating lake. After feeding the geese, swans and ducks we took some photographs and chatted to members of the public. Jan Jones made some tasty Welsh Cakes that went down very well.

After the boating lake we headed off for another destination about 5 miles out side of the city. Blooms Garden centre were happy for us to park up and let our cars be on show to their Sunday shoppers. Several of our members headed inside for teas & coffees while some went shopping for gardening plants. The sun began to shine on us as we headed off again to our next destination Llandaff Rowing Club. Having first secured permission to have photographs of our cars on their slipways, we lined up along the bank of the crystal blue river Taff. When we arrived there we were greeted by the steward on the club house balcony. He was there taking photographs too so I asked if we could come up and take some too. While there I managed to thank him for his support and asked if he could choose a vehicle that he thought was his personal best of the day.

We were soon on our way again following the A4119 back to Llantristant to have our annual dinner. Most got stuck into a great Roast of the day and deserts. A quick raffle was taken and drawn. The £24.00 raised will be given to our chosen charity for 2011 the Welsh Air Ambulance. Just before leaving I managed to thank everyone for attending and presented a photo frame with daffodils painted on it to the winner of the “Best Car of the Day”. This trophy was won by our own branch Chairman Mr Ray Simkiss for his white convertible.

This event started out with 11 Morris’s and a modern car and all came back with no mishaps to report.

Our next event will be the National Drive it Day event where we hope to travel west to the seaside town of Porthcawl and ending at Margam Park. Hope to see you there.
