What year & Model Morris vehicle used the LP - 936 - 4 1/2" rims?

I knew about the model LP - 917 - 4 1/2" rims.
These were fitted to late 8 CWT Vans and Pick-ups.

Today a friend came up with a LP - 936 rim and it is also 4 1/2" rim.
He thought it was the same as the rims i have on my vehicle.
They look the same - After closer inspection i found it was different.
After searching the internet i found a picture on the Morris Oxford site - They had no explaination on the rim.

I think on the 936's the rim is set further out as clearance from tyre to suspension leg is close on a 917. My copy of the Van Service parts list for 1968 shows some part numbers but it is not clear which rim they refer to, maybe someone has a later list or a saloon one that the part numbers could be cross referenced to?

Oh and that 917 rim for sale at Minor Parts sold earlier in the week in case anyone is interested!

Hi See my letter in the latest mag. I bought mine in ~ 1970, they were a special Dunlop product for Minors, not necessarily vans (which had their own version anyway). I think these were made by using the 41/2 J van rim, but rivetting/welding it onto the centre in reverse, so the 'step' in the rim you see from the outside is a more gradual slope than the normal van rim outer view, which is more of a sharp right angle. Not easy to explain. The sharper angle is now on the inside of the 936's.
Hope that helps

yes - they are made from the same parts as the 917 but the rim is reversed - it gives a very different offset.
I've yet to come across anyone who can say definitivly how these got into the market - either they were specials for one of the major fleets (e.g. for engineers to go on muddy tracks) or they were aftermarket/optional extras.

Thank You very much for all your answers.
I had never seen them before and ran across them on the site i posted.
I thought it was very interesting there were different rims that were 4 1/2" .
Yet i could only find reference to the LP-917 rims in any books.

As above -they are 'reverse rims' for the Minor. Reverse rim Mini Cooper S wheels were very very popular in their day, and perhaps someone at Dunlop decided to see if similar wheels would sell for Minors. Other possible idea could be that were to allow fitting of Weathermaster Winter tyres - which may otherwise have rubbed on the kingpin if fitted to LP917 wheels........ Anyway - they are EXTREMELY rare - and fetch lots of money when they come up for sale !!
