Newbie queries!

Hi all.
Recently migrated to my series II after being a mini buff for some time.
I wonder if anyone can help me - OR point me in the right direction.
My cars plates give a s/n of FAE11 / 330H35 & the engine number is on the bulkhead plate as 176175 but the tag on the block says 8G25 EP63153- can anyone interpret these for me( I knew where to go for info on mini serials etc )
Have I been re engined at some time?
Next question - does anyone know where there is a good celly paint supplier - I have some rust ( well, it IS a morris! ) to do and can't afford a big blow over at present so its rattle cans. My car is empire green BTW.
Last question - I have a positive earth car with a dynamo....scream!! ... is there a procedure anyone can recommend to convert to negative earth & alternator ( as things SHOULD be!)
Many thanks all
Colin :)

Welcome to the messageboard Colin :D All the information you need is here - just use the search facility on the top right hand corner.

Chassis number: F = Morris Minor A = 4 door saloon E= Mid green 1 = RHD home market model 1 = synthetic paint

Are you sure that there is an 'H' in the number? Could it be a '4' instead? Chassis numbers starting 330--- relate to Minors built during 1955.

This site contains all sorts of useful information regarding identification, original specifications etc:

http://potteries.mmoc.org.uk/Identification.htm

The engine prefix 8G signifies a reconditioned unit so your original engine has been replaced at some point.

Several on here recommend the paint supplier in this link: http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=37495
You can also get spray cans in most Minor colours by mail order from traders such as Bull Motif, East Sussex Minors (ESM), Birmingham Morris Minor Centre, Tom Roy etc

Details of how to convert from positive to negative earth are here: http://www.mmoc.org.uk/index.php?page=322

An alternator wiring diagram is here: http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?t= ... ng+diagram

Anthing else you need, just ask! Post a message in the most suitable forum eg electrical for electrical queries. Why not post up a photo of your car (instructions here: http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=31197 ) and you could also amend your profile so that everyone knows where you are as there may be other Minor owners local to you :)

You don't HAVE to go to an alternator - but conversion to -ve earth with the dynamo is worth while meantime.

An alternator will look completely out of place in a Series 11. Fit an ammeter and you can keep a check that you do not have too many things switched on at once

Hi newbie with reference to your paint query, Empire Green was discontinued in 1957/58 and was superceeded with Dark Green from that period onwards, unfortunately i can't find a paint code for Empire Green. The replcement colour Dark Green has code reference BMC GN 12. If you want an exact match contact PPG paint finishes Co Durham, if you can supply a sample they will use a colour spectromiter and identify the colour mix ratio. hope this is of help
