Non starter

Having been running fault free our Minor will now not start. It turns over as lively as ever but will not fire. We have a 1964 1098 with the side entry distributor cap and screw in lead type coil. We are considering changing the distributor cap to the push on lead top entry variety along with the push on lead coil. Can we do this or do we need to change the whole of the distributor? We seem to have a spark where we should have spark but the engine just will not fire.
Any other ideas or suggestions would be most welcome.

if there is spark - don't change anything. Is there any fuel ? Try pouring an egg cup full down the carb throat - does it start now ? If so = problem with fuel pump/blockage in line from tank - or out of petrol!

Thank you for the relpy bmcecosse, checked and double checked everything and was struggling to find the solution to the problem. Then noticed the spark was intermittent. A lot of head scratching and a couple of cups of tea and it turned out that one of the wires connected onto the coil was broken, but inside the sheathing. Cut it off, tried a temporary repair for a test run. Fitted a new spade connector and hay presto Mrs CK's daily drive is back on the road.

Well done ! It's 'never' the coil - but quite often it IS the connections to the coil!
