Hi

Ive just fitted a new pinion seal in the diff - the old one was pouring out oil and the old oil seal was found to be hard and brittle.

New seal £1.94 from DSN, seems very nice quality and fitted very well :D

I used a length of dexion to hold the prop shaft connection flange whilst I undid the nut and for re torquing to 140 lbft.

I cleaned out the diff internals and was pleased to find all in excellent condition with no wear visible on the gears and no sediment in the case.

Heres some pics:

you're telling me! i even heard of someone using it for shelving!

that diff looks good too. i must admit, the diff is now the only thing i havent taken apart. that 140lbft seemed a bit scary to attempt to replicate! especially as i have heard that when produced, nobody adhered to the 140, most went higher than that (although i'm not sure as to what figure).

am i right in thinking that the torque figure is a 'pre-load' or something? if it was just a case of it not coming undone i cant see the torque figure making that much difference. anyone care to enlighten me?
