Converting a traveller into a pickup?

Hi everyone, I am looking for a minor pickup to customize but can't find any on a shoe string budget. However I do know of a few rather rough travellers closer to my budget. I know there will be alot of fabricating needed but since minors have a propper chassis will it effect the strength of the car? Also does anyone know just how much a minor can be lowered by? I would be grateful for any advice. Thanks, John

Hello john,

Minors don't have a proper chassis.

Vans and pickups used a slightly different base unit than the Traveller. There's no reason why it couldn't be re inforced if you put a pick up back on if your fabrication skills are up to it?

it has been done in the past. i've seen one or two about. not sure how they overcame the strength. the advantage of converting a traveller is that the cab will be bigger. pickups and vans have small cabs and use front doors from a 4 door minor, which are shorter than the 2 door doors which were used on travellers. so you wouldn't be able to put a pickup back straight onto a traveller as it would hang off the end! you could shorten a pickup back, or just do what has been done before, and trim the traveller woodwork down to the waistline. i believe 'Woodies' made one and even do a wood kit for a traveller pickup.

thanks Alec and Chris, i'll need to look further into the whole traveller/pickup conversion, my panel fabricating skills might be up to it, but as for re-engineering the chassis? though you mentioned the van option, that might be worth looking at as i plan on making a custom back section anyway. many thanks, john.
