Need to replace the pipes coming from the front t piece. Are the flares needed double flares going into the t and master cylinder and single going into the front hoses? Do I need different unions for each and will receptacles not fit if they were intended for double flare?

All the metal brake lines should have double flares.

My traveller has both single and double flares on the brake pipes.

The front tee does normally have double flares.

The single flare looks like a bubble on the end of the pipe and the double flare looks like a small funnel.

The way to choose is to look inside the fitting you are screwing into - if there is a cone pointing towards you you need a double flare and if there is a cone pointing away then you need a single (bubble shape) flare.

If you are using the steel bundy tube (steel brake pipe) you first form a bubble flare, then you squash the middle back in with the cone on the tool - this makes the pipe double thickness at the end and looks like a small funnel.

However if you are using copper or cunifer pipe you can I believe just use the cone to flare as if you try to double it it will often split as the pipe is too thick - but Im not entirely sure about this. (edited)

I can't speak for copper as I don't use it, but I used Cunifer (cupro-nickel) tube for the Minor a few years ago, and only 3/4 weeks ago again for my son's kit car, with all the double flares being double thickness and no sign of cracking.

From memory there is a mixture of single and double flares and BSF and UNF fittings on a MInor? Even on the same piece of tubing!

They are most certainly NOT all double flares! Look at what comes out - and make the same.

On reflection I think you are correct - perhaps Im confusing it with the difficulty of forming double flares with a cheap flaring tool!!

How do you check bsf and unf? Unf finer thread? Anyone else had trouble double flaring with cheaper tool? The Draper is the same as the cheap Nielsen kits on ebay and bmc gets on with it? Also anyone recommend a deburring tool just a small drill bit to take off any ragged bits and a small flat file?&

Yes - UNF is very obviously finer than the BSF thread. A drop of brake fluid as lubricant helps when flaring. Just get a length of pipe - and practice practice practice until you can do it with your eyes shut!

this may be correct "over there", but here in Canada they MUST be double flare, except the bubble flare type.

Then again, our's and your's terms for single and double flares may have different meanings.

Your bubble flare is the single flair...... It's what you get with the First OP on the tool, therefore single flare. This can then be modified in the Second Op where required to make the double flare.

so the double flare is the first one pictured on the left and the bubble flare on the right is a single flare?
