I have a problem with the 2 orange bulbs on the dash that are meant to flash when you indicate. I have checked the fuses and replaced the bulbs.

is there anything else obvious I should be checking?

The one on the end of the indicator stalk works fine.

that an addition to you minor. some late 50s one had a flashing light in the speedo for indicator.

If your oil filter gets blocked (not fitted to some models - although the light lens is)

Erm let me think

There's a high beam - Blue?
Oil pressure - yellow
Charging light - Red
and finally - oil filter blocked light (if you have a sensor on the oil filter)

Minors weren't built with any bulbs on the dash. Do you mean an orange light within the black or gold speedo face? Only the green light at the end of the indicator arm should flash (on later Minors).

If not you have something non-standard as Brixtonmorris said.

On the earlier cars without flashing stalks, was there a light central top of the speedo for indicator? I have a black faced speedo, typical of the later cars, which has a dark blue?/brown?/green? light in this top central position.

Is this speedo actually off a Mini? What was htis light used for?

Yes, on some.

If it's black faced and has a green light at the top then it's a Mini speedo and is calibrated for a Mini!

Excuse the dark picture, it's the only way I could do it and show the lamps.


Black faced later speedo head. Blue is high beam warning, red ignition/charging, mid right amber low oil pressure. There is another amber lamp horizontally opposite the low oil press. Presume this must be filter differential warning - not connected on my car - screw on filter.

That looks like a Mini speedo, 57... there's a rash of 'em! You should have the gold faced one.... I'm thinking we've had this conversation before, so if I'm horrifically wrong and have forgotten something, then I apologise...

Don't panic Mr Mainwaring! It's o.k. Gareth, the speedo, like just about everything else, came from a donor Minor incuding voltage stabiliser and later fuel tank transmitter unit plus switches, seats, trim etc.. Engine, g/box, diff. etc. is all 1098cc. So other than the original body, including that silly driver's side glovebox lid it's only a '57 in name only.
123 Paul doesn't state the year of his car so I only posted pic. to illustrate what Ray had said earlier.
My '62 saloon however still has the gold/bronze speedo unit. which only has three lamps - green(oil), red(ign) & blue(hb). Like so.

Why green for low oil (danger) is hard to understand?

I don't think that's a Mini speedo as it's the same as mine:



The Mini speedos have a green indicator light above the 50MPH mark so the 50 is smaller which it isn't on mine or '57s

The only other type (except the MM/S2 ones) is shown in this picture and it's not that type!

Yes, I guessed Mr.123 had a 1098 speedo when he mentioned the 2 yellow lights. He's not the 1st person to ask that question on a late car.
And I was intrigued by Gareths comment on your black faced speedo being Mini - I was sure it looked like my 1098 The mystery is solved then!

Wouldn't have been too concerned if it has been ex Mini but the speed indicated would probably be wildly incorrect without calibration I suspect.

I think it's the same but it's been a while since I have messed about with Mini speedos although I have one spare in my garage. Might have a look if I think on...................

Just thought the pics. might be useful if anyone is purchasing another speedo at car boot, autojumble, ebay etc. It's worth noting the differences including the SN numbers under the miles window which aren't the same.
