Well Lily B went on a ramp today for a new clutch and i have just been told she will need "extensive" welding to get through the MOT (although my usual garage failed to mention this 3 months ago when they did the brakes) - so does anyone know a good welder around the Surrey area?
This may sound slightly emotive, but i do feel i have a responsibility to keep her on the road, so i need to get on and get some prices for this work before her MOT....

Re: welders
that's good as they are my usual garage....
i will give them first shout on the quote, though i would have thought they might have mentioned it before - though to be fair, the winter and leeds' third world roads may have made it all a bit clearer!

Re: welders
just having read your post again.. are you sure the garage that did the clutch were not "looking" for more work from you? one persons extensive welding is another persons few minutes.. when i got my convertible done my local non specialist was looking at 1000 per side.. chertsey were 800 pounds for both sides

Re: welders
there is a flip side to that, i work in the trade and sometimes work is overpriced because they don't want to do the work also they may have quoted so much as they have no concept of the price/work involved, i know this from my own experience.
However there is plenty of people in the motor trade more than happy to rip people off, these people give everyone a bad name.

Re: welders
sorry.. in my previous post i was not trying to say that the first garage were trying to rip me off, it was simply a case, as you say, that they do not know moggies as well as a moggy specialist so would obviously take longer than a specialist who has done it hundreds of times..chertsey were even happy to give a guide price over the phone.. they have done it that many times!
