Dynamo

Today i was carrying out a routine service, i thought that I would check whether the dynamo was charging.

these are the results.

standing (No ignition):12.47
running(IDLE): 12.37
running(revved):12.28

to me this seems that the dynamo is not charging. Am I correct in saying the brushes need to be replaced?

i have noticed that when i have the heater on, the indicators seem to slow down? same with the wipers.

The battery is brand new

ignition light is always on, but has never been a problem before.

regards
chris

You're right that it's not charging. Try cleaning the contacts in the voltage regulator box first.

thanks for replying, I thought of that and tried it, but no avail. I need to order some rear brake shoes anyway, so i will order some brushes tomorrow.

Hopefully brushes will sort it. It's certainly not charging! The red light MUST go out.

If the brushes don't sort it then you may find this website useful to adjust the control box
