just need a little advice as to the work needed to replace my 71 travs 1098 with a spitfire engine
1300/ 1500 does it make it any harder to fit one or the other
can i use existing gear box?
any other recomendations apart from this (on a budget)

If money's an issue a more straightforward A series swap is best, simply because it's a known quantity. Mind you, that's not necessarily cheap!

Not an easy swop at all - and no - you would need the Triumph (assuming not Supermarine?) gearbox with different prop shaft, and exhaust would also need extensive changes.

Triumph engine isn't the best, especially the 1500 - better off with an A series.

A 27 ltr Merlin engine is a bit large for a Minor

You aren't kidding, I saw one run in a torpedo boat.
The guy put a pint of petrol in a milk bottle and dipped the pipe to the tank in it.
Just enough for it to go BRUMMMMMM I'll never forget that sound

owning and working on both of these on a regular basis I can recommend staying with the a series. You can get a 1275 and tweak it up a little it will give you basically what the 1500 does on the Spitfire.... As for fuel economy I get about the same from both the Traveller and the Spitfire, but the Spit is a lot lighter than the Trav... Ease of maintainence, can't beat the a series.... get yourself the tuners guide to the a series and have some fun with what you've got, you'll be surprised.....
