Hi there, I now have my first moggie and theres a few little niggles that need sorting out, One of the main ones is the heater. The heater turns on and blows but no hot air comes out. Any Ideas would be muchly appreciated!

Silly question, but have you turned the hot water on? On early cars you have to get under the bonnet and open the brass tap at the back of the cylinder head. Later cars (post-1963) have a knob under the dashboard that you push to open the valve.

Hi there and welcome as above alex just beat me to it,the old style brass tap is in the engine bay on the left hand side of the rocker cover just underneath the battery or inside the car itself there is a black knob situated underneath the glove box on the left hand side of the steering coloum,pull for heat push home to close

Heaters in the Minor were never brilliant, but there are some improvements to be made...

Check that the valve opens - if you have the PUSH for heat type, then does the cable move the lever on the valve - if the cable clamp has come loose, then the outer sheath can move whilst the lever remains in the closed position. Even if the lever moves, the inside might be gunged up. Once the engine is warm, take a hose from the heater tap remove the radiator cap, and feed the hose into the radiator. Start the engine and see if water flows out of the hose. NB be careful of hot water and moving parts like the fan. Low water flow = stuck valve.

Disconnect the other heater hose and then using a garden hose, flush the heater in both directions until clear water flows freely - sediment can build up and block water flow. Make sure that you replace everything as was securely and check water level and anti-freeze.

The thermostat could be 82 degrees. Fit an 88 degree one to get hotter water. Does the thermostat work properly - a permanently open stat will reduce water temp and thus heating ability.

just re read advice spot the deliberate mistake,just testing alex, i,ll remember to proof my advice next time,watching telly and thinking has never been my strongest point

thats what that brass tap is?! damn ive been roasting in this hot weather with the heater matrix warming everything up!
