Can anyone please tell me what sort of MPG you get from a Fiat twin cam please

i seem to recall on a previous post most people recorded mid to high twenties

As with any engine - it will depend entirely how you drive it. But being a 1600 (or 2000) engine - it's never going to have the same possible economy as say a 948 A series.

If your wanting economy why even consider a twin cam?

I thought my reply was perfectly useful. I told you it would never be as economical as a 948 - you seem to agree! I never let the forums get personal Paul - but be sure I won't be answering any of your future questions !

How about you give us some idea what MPG you are hoping for and we suggest a suitable driving style?
The MPG control is right there under you right foot!

You were insinuating you wished for good economy pal, I merely questioned the logic behind twin cam upgrade and economy.

I got just over 30mpg out of mine with a stupidly low (4.55:1) diff ratio.

The answer to the question IS 25-30 MPG

my standard rebuilt 2.0 was 25-30, I'm hoping not too much worse with different cam and carbs. One could get more by driving more economically.

ISTR the K series offering a lot more power and better fuel economy than the A series. Modern fuel injected engines can offer more of both by being more fuel efficient.

ive heard plenty people say that fuel economy on a fiat twin cam isnt great, but to be fair what 2.0 has good fuel economy??? not many thats for sure.

25-30 seems to be the general opinion. So Thanks again to those that understood the question. Time to put this one to bed.

Yes - there have been verified MPG reports from K-series powered Minors that they can achieve and some can beat the MPG of a standard Minor 1000.

The question about MPG is perfectly valid , and some engine combinations are certainly better than others. i.e. offering similar bhp with a large difference in potential mpg. The Fiat twink certainly doesn't give great mpg for the bhp however you drive it. I've never driven mine (had that project ongoing for 3 years now ) but have been told similar mpg figures many times.

PAULJ - I'm sure like many many others who have used the forum youover the previous decade, you didn't feel that some of the comments were helpful. I've been there myself many times - on both sides of the fence
However, that's just how forums work - anyone can have their say, whether you wanted it or not. How any comment comes across is not neccessarily how it was intended, therefore please can all bear this in mind in future. If a comment doesn't help, it costs nothing to ignore it. If advice is completely useless or dangerous, we are lucky here that someone will be along fairly soon to offer sensible/safe advice etc..

The forum T&C's ban advertising, criticism and abuse, and but that's about it - generally we (moderators) are criticised for some kind of militant over zealous moderation regime, but fortunately that only exists in a select few people's perception and not in reality.

I have to ask, why would anyone stick that dog of an engine called the k series in anything? All of my experiences with these engines, and its v6 derevative involved blown gasket and warped heads... especially.that high compression engine they stuck in the tomcat.... that was a 2 litre k series wasnt it?

The Fiat twin cam head is not that efficient due to the combustion chamber design, the more modern 16 valve engines have a much better combustion chamber shape (more compact) and so have a better burn of the mixture compared to the 8 valve fiat.
I seem to remember that when my Minor had a 2 litre 8 valve on single carb (with K&N) it was low to mid 30 mpg, with twin 40s and then 45s was under 30 mpg, fobably mid 20s. When I put the 16 valve head on, with the short duration turbo cams it would do around 40 mpg (twin 45s) and was extremely torquey and would therefore pull a higher gear much more easily.
It is the chamber design and hence burn rate/pattern of the later engines (such as Zetec) which give the good mpg fiqures rather than the injection but obvoiusly this helps a bit.
It is obviously very dependant upon how you drive it, my figures were really 'best' figures taken on a longer run and not treated too hard, when driven hard on hillclimbs and sprints the mpg plummeted but then I never did those as an economy run!
