Removing Fuel tank sender unit?!

Hi Guys,

Looking for a bit of help, got a wee faulty fuel gauge, used a 12v tester and deduced that the sender unit itself is faulty, thought I'd try taking him out and having a look/clean to see if that helps, if not replace it with a new one.

Problem....

After removing all six screws, I then can't get the thing to budge......How is this managed? Turn clockwise, anti clockwise, bash with hammer, wiggle with screwdriver?

Any help would be massively appreciated!

Edd

Wiggle with a screwdriver sounds best. There is probably a layer of mastic between the sender and tank

I'd order a new sender gasket to keep it all fuel tight on re-assembly.You can be lucky sometimes with the old gasket but they are not very expensive.
Disconnect the battery at the start, stray sparks and an open fuel tank are not a good companion !! Be gentle removing the sender/ float arm ( and note the orientation within the tank for later ).
With the sender out and cleaned up, you can attach the multimeter, on Ohms.Putting the arm through it's whole range of movement should reflect in a changing figure for resistance.Check the earth wiring is ok as well.Fingers crossed for you.
