Hi fitting a 1098 engine&box into a 1956 splittie, problem is the gearbox mounting and gearbox crossmember and clutch to chassic link are 25mm out.its as if the engine and box need to be 25mm forward.thought swapping engine mounts would bring this 25 forward but havent done it yet.all help would be appreciated, thanks Stevie
ALSO does anyone have a photograph of the way the engine mounts are meant to be fitted, many thanks

The gearbox crossmember should fit with the gearbox steady cable facing forward. The engine mounts fit either way. You need to cut away the floor pan to fit the remote gear shift unless you get a 1098 box with 803 gear shift mod.

Having put a Minor 1000 engine and box in an early SII, I can say you shouldn't get this much hassle, so can only assume something at the engine mounts / towers are the wrong way round.
Problems with the gearbox crossmember etc wouldn't put the clutch intermediate shaft 25mm from it's normal position if the engine mouns are in line.

I have just put a 1098 engine and gearbox into a 1956 split screen with no major problems. As mike said you will need the correct 1098 gearbox floor pan as the gearstick sits a lot further back on the 1098 gearbox, it will sit a little closer to the handbrake but you will or should get all the gears without any problems.
When I first started the engine I found that the oil filter was rattling slightly on the chassis, but there was a small lip on the chassis which I ground back to prevent this.
If you can before you fit everything use the 1098 gearbox floor pan as a template and draw around it. Do not cut this line but allow a small lip for the floor pan to sit on there will be certain parts where there will be no holes in the floor for the new floor pan to screw down so allow a sufficient lip to drill a hole through for any new bolts.
If you are buying new carpets don,t forget you will need the carpets from a later car because otherwise the gearstick hole will be in the wrong place if you try and fit the carpet for a car with an 803 box.
If in doubt stop, think and have a brew.
All the best.

On the Minor 1000's the lip is bent back to give clearance - from memory this is next to the oil filter.
