Head gasket

do i fit the head gasket on a 1098 engine dry or with a smear of wellseal or something?

Spotlessly clean - and thin smear of grease. NEVER use any sealant.........

I've never used grease but then again I would never argue with Roy either

I have used grease in the past, but I changed my mind after doing a lot of reading into the subject. Head gasket manufacturers recommend you use nothing - no grease, no sealant - just get everything spotlessly clean. The idea of grease is to make it easier to dismantle again later, I believe, not to assist the seal (in fact it may cause it to seal less well).
