i think chassis number starting MAT is a convertible. T for tourer. Whereas a saloon would be MAS, S for saloon. simples!

as above also quick visual check the corner strenghtners under the parcel shelf should be spot welded on a genuine convertible and also check that there are no light switches in the "A" post as for obvious reasons convertibles didn, have interior lights, however double check that there are no "blanking" plugs where the lights used to be if it,s a saloon converted as some people bung or plug the existing light holes.

I've had two genuine convertibles which both had holes for the courtesy light switches, 1966 & 1969 cars. Check there's no spot weld marks in the underside of the rear shelf over the back seat (i.e. view from the boot of the car looking up) If there are, it once had a roof!

Chassis number for a 2-door saloon would be MA2S as MAS was for 4-doors and as far as I know only one of them has been made into a convertible!
