is it the clutch?

We are currently in Leeds and Lily is a little unwell.

She seems very sluggish taking off from static, like there is a big gap from letting the clutch up and really getting any pull as you accelerate, and there is a bit of a whirring as she builds up momentum. I suspect a slipping clutch, but have no haynes manual and only basic tools with me.

The idle also seems a bit off as well, she is dying slowly in traffic, sat out of gear.

So two things - any quick and easy fixes to make sure i can get back to london (although she was fine on the motorway coming up) or does anyone know a garage in leeds i can take her before sunday?

thanks

Sounds more like the engine is out of sorts to me, especially if it's not ticking over.. A slipping clutch is more obvious in high gears than in 1st. First thing I would check would be the points. Perhaps the heel has worn out running up to Leeds leaving you with a very small points gap?

If there is some free-play on the clutch pedal - then you can't do much about the clutch. If no free-play, adjust it! If poorly engine - tune it up - as above, the points are a good place to start.

i think i'll need to do the clutch back at home base, but i ended up calling syncro motors in leeds who are mentioned elsewhere on here, and they sorted the points and cleaned up a flakey distro cap and retuned the carb a little as it was running rich, then asked for a fiver!

Really good service, made me smile and stopped me worrying as i am currently on daily hospital runs.

Well done - sounds like good value for that £5.
