The left rear door stay to my 1966 M0orris Traveller needs either adjusting or renewing can anyone gve me any information to get it working ok again.

What's the problem?

the problem is that the door stay does not keeep the door open,l have fitted replacement hinge repair kits,because they were worn, but its the stay Bar pin that i assume has a spring to hold it down,this does not seem strong enough to hold the door open.

" Sorted " l have managed to sort out the problem, when l stripped the stay down and looked at it l found that the stay Bar was slightly bent and the pin that holds the spring was also bent.These were both straightened.
Interestingly there was a new spring in this section.
My next job was to place a small packing washer to increase the pressure on the catch,then after greasing, l refitted it and Bingo it worked.

I got fed up with my Traveller rear doors slamming closed in a wind or when parked facing downhill so I replaced the stays with telescopic struts. Problem solved.

They are available from Birmingham Morris Minor Centre and they cost too much. You may find some suitable ones in the scrappy.

If you go down the scrap yard route..

mk4 polo ones are a good size and cost me £3 for a pair including the brakets.

If you would like i can dig out the photos and post some notes..

a washing line clothes peg works well for me

The clothes peg is for holding the choke knob out

Dual purpose then!
You could always lash out and buy (or pinch) another two.

I bought some new springs and cut them (to length) until I had just the resistance that I wanted. There is a fine line between jamming solid and offering no resistance!
