Window winder replacement

For starters, I apologise to all if this is in the wrong place. I'm new to all of this and I can't quite figure out where to put this post!

I have a lovely but infuriating Morris Minor 1000, 4dr Saloon, 1098cc called Millie.
The other day I used my super human strength when winding up the drivers side window and seem to have thoroughly bent the mechanism inside, now the window is wedged in place, half open (i'm an optimist!) and I can't take the car anywhere without leaving it prone to vandals and thieves.

Can I just replace the mechanism inside the door or do I need to replace the door entirely?
I realise this may seem a silly question to those of you more mechanically minded, but as I am not, any suggestions (preferably constructive) would be great :)

Millie is my everyday car and I'm a bit lost without her! :(

Wei :)

Youve probably just bent or twisted the arm on the window mechanism within the door.

The first thing is to remove the door trim panel and have a look inside. Removing the trim is relatively easy if you have a manual or haynes book. The handles inside need to come off first and then the door pull strap. The trim panel is then carefully pulled off the door with its clips.

If its the arm bent on the winder then it can be removed by undoing 4 bolts and twisting it around within the door and you should be able to straighten it with a hammer!

If the winder gears have failed then you will need a second hand replacement - these are usually available cheaply.

If you take the door card off, prise off the spring clips, you will see that there is a toothed quadrant with an arm attached which slides along the bottom of the window glass in a channel. The arm can drop out of the channel or the channel can rust away or the arm can become bent.
Compare it to the machanism on the other side door. The winder can be removed by removing four bolts that secure the winder to the door and manoevering the the mehanism through the door frame. beware, the mechanism is spring loaded so keep fingers out of the way otherwise you will be practicing 1st aid. The manual says close the window but in your case that is probably not possible so the spring will still be under tension.
I would put the posting in the bodywork section

Thankyou for all your suggestions.
Went out and had a go, got about halfway through to discover that yes, it is very bent, to the point we cant get it out! Getting in touch with our local mech who is rebuilding his own for the finishing touches :)
(Window is currently duct taped up! Oh what a day. . .)

Will be sure to post in the appropriate place next time.

Wei :)

If you can remove the four bolts and push the winder spindle into the door frame, keeping fingers clear, the mechanism may drop into the bottom of the door and you can fish it out.
