HHO

Been doing a little light reading tonight after a conversation about HHO.
Chap I was chatting to is claiming an increase of about 15mpg after installing his self built system.
laws of physics dictate that it would cost the same in terms of energy to break down as it would in gain so I am still sceptical.
I understand that this does make fuel burn better but the thought of water in my engine (piston chamber and passing through inlet and exahust valves and out through my exhaust leaves me thinking very bad for the car, yet the claims for this addon is better mpg, better torque and even better for the engine.
I wonder has anyone tried this?
