My Traveller - FKX760C

Hi there,

I was wondering if someone could help me fill in some blanks about my Traveller. The DVLA search returns nothing. Judging from the number plate, the car was first registered in 1965 in Buckinghamshire, with my chassis number suggesting it was built in '64. I bought it last year from a small dealer in Tyrone, who told me he had bought the car from a man in Cheshire in 2009. With it came a very old key fob from "Jarvis of Wimbledon".

I'm currently trying to get hold of some old MOT certificates and invoices that the seller said he had (and I stupidly forgot to take, being wrapped up in buying what was not only my first moggy, but my first car). I'm hoping that these will shed some light on the car's history. Until then, if anyone here knows anything about it, please let me know.

In particular, I'm trying to find out what the original colour was, because as far as I know maroon was not a factory colour for Travellers in the mid-sixties. I'm not going to change it, because I think it looks stunning, but I just need my curiosity satisfied.

Thanks in advance,
-Neil

PS: The car is no longer FKX 760C, but ZV 9577 (ZV being Ireland's standard prefix for imported cars built before 1980).

When you say that a DVLA search revealed nothing, are you talking about a web search on the DVLA site or a formal request for info? You can complete a form (downloaded from DVLA web site) requesting all info held about the car from first registration. It costs five pounds.

I sent for the info on my car and it took less than two weeks to arrive and it contained the history of all owners/ addresses from new.

Not sure about the info whilst the car was in Ireland but worth a check.

Maroon B was not a standard colour in 64/65

With a cherokee red interior (as the car appears to have) it would have either been either Old English White or Rose Taupe (a kinda pinky brown/grey colour) might be worth having a look in the nooks and crannies to see if theres any trace in there (try taking a golvebox liner out and looking into the dash cavity)

Thanks for that. I'll do a formal request and see what it brings up. I registered the car myself last year, so I know it's history in Ireland! :D

Thanks for that. I don't know why, but I had an inkling it could have been white. There's absolutely no trace of the original paint behind the dash, and the floorpan is painted chassis black. It's been Maroon for some years now (according to the old MOT certs and receipts I got my hands on), so has probably been re-resprayed at some point.

My traveller is Rose Taupe if that helps - cherokee red interior now - originally tartan red (slightly darker red).

My father owned a Morris Minor Traveller when I was a boy with the registration FKX760C.
I believe he got rid of it in 1983.
The colour was Rose Taupe.
I will see if my dad still has anything regarding the car.
