Re: newton commercial seats
The Newton Commercial seats look very nice, but I've never understood why a seemingly not insignificant number of people find the standard seats unsatisfactory? What is it about them that some people find uncomfortable? I ask as I spend many hours in the driving seat of my Minor and have never had a problem.

Re: newton commercial seats
I've only found the standard seats uncomfortable when they've had a 'saggy bottom' due to the straps needing replacing and when they stick to your legs in hot weather
I've never really thought about getting uprated seats but I tried out some Newton Commercial ones at a rally last summer and I must confess they were really comfortable - it was a huge difference from the standard seats. I wish I hadn't sat on one now! So perhaps some people upgrade their seats not because they find the standard seats particularly uncomfortable or unsatisfactory but more because the uprated seats are so much more comfortable. The extra support they give also helps those with back problems etc

Re: newton commercial seats
There could be a lot of truth in the "back problems" reason. 20 minutes on good std seats was my limit. The seats I replaced them with, unfortunately not Newton seats, helped. Also, being high backed and with head rests there is more protection in a rear collision or 'whiplash' scenario.

Re: newton commercial seats
I haven't shelled out for them, have mini seats instead, but higher back seats with a headrest were a must as i often have rear passengers, and their head hitting mine didnt seem very appealing..

Re: newton commercial seats
Roughly £700 for a pair including VAt (before this recent increase). I had difficuly reaching the pedals with the standard seats, bought a metro set off ebay - still no good. I've found they are far more adjustable, and as husband has much longer legs than me we can share the driving, changing the seat position in seconds whereas before we needed to physically move the seat forward using spanners! = result I can drive my car!

Re: newton commercial seats
I have a very bad back and I can sit for hours and hours in my Moggy without many problems - my Dad's Astra, on the other hand, is like hell on earth. After 15-20 minutes I'm in excruciating pain. I had a Defender 110 before the Moggy and I loved the seats in that too, they supported my back perfectly and the upright seating positing was really comfortable. A lot of people hate standard Land Rover seats though.

Re: newton commercial seats
I've done some long journeys on my standard seats and not suffered any back-ache despite having broken my back a couple of years ago but I can understand anyone wanting to change them. The original ones are rather basic and have little adjustment. I was wondering if the smart Newton Comercial seats add any significant weight to the car. These things can add up, extra sound deadening, electric windows...........
