Does anyone know about Hand brake adjuster on a Iveco 3.5 daily van.
The rear caliper works fine on the HYD. foot brake, but the hand brake leaver just moves backwards and forwards without moving the piston, also the piston just turns when you try to reset it to fit new pads, but screws out when you turn it anticlockwise.
The unit is a single piston with sliding caliper.
The easiy answer is to fit a new caliper at £130.

I know nothing about Iveco's but the handbrake cable might be attached to a lever that operates a drum brake type arrangement so nothing todo with the rear caliper.

Isn't the screw mechanism to allow for pad wear so you need to screw the piston inwards to allow for new pads but remember that you will be displacing brake fluid so there maybe some resistance.

Like most of these modern calipers- you need to PUSH the piston in (REALLY REALLY HARD !) while turning it clockwise - to get it to go back in. There are special tools sold to do the job - but I've managed without. £130 for a caliper........ Aye right!!

I have tried to push hard while turning clockwise, but I will try again, VERY HARD.

the handbrake works on a set of shoes inside the disc, adjustable through an inspection hole at the backplate.

Maybe - I have no idea about specifics - but the piston is said to screw out if turned anti-clock - which suggests it is the auto adjust for the type of handbrake that operates on the pads - directly on the disc.

Yes thats right, there are no shoes, just pads.

The Iveco's I've had experience with all had shoe handbrakes (they were part of a fleet so were mostly the same model)
on caliper handbrake types of vehicles Ive found it easier with some stubborn calipers to remove them & mount it in a vice so you can get some weight behind it (even with a proper wind back tool) . The thing that doesn't sound promising is that you mention that the piston doesn't move when the caliper leaver is operated, something internal could have seized

Or it has just reached the end of the travel.

I have made a devise to screw back piston, and at the same time apply a load to help push it back in.
Did not work, gess it wants hitting with the £130 stick.
Tried to up load photos, hope it works.

That tool will work - you are just not pushing hard enough. Been there - done that - not on an Iveco, but very similar caliper. You DO need to wind it back in...........

I have all the weight on there I care to put on, starting to bend 8mm backing plate.
There is still no connection on the hand brake lever, it just turns, I think something is broken inside the handbrake mechanism. These units are exchange, they may not be happy if I take a bag of bits in exchange.
The last time I asked if I could pay them to watch, well that is another story.

If it's like the Ford caliper the piston MUST be rotated as well as pushed back!!!
