Airfix made a model in 1/32nd scale of the Morris Mini Minor,not the Morris Minor,it is incorrectly listed in Arthur Wards book on airfix collecting and also on an airfix collectors site as 'Morris Minor',ommiting the 'Mini'.It was released originally in 1961.[frame]

Interesting how the Minor is set static against a post war, austere background of rain & general bleakness while the Mini picture has motion & sun.

It's true, the Mini looks right out of place!
The odd thing about the Minor picture is that it's parked across Hyde park corner and there are pedestrians near it.

I think you might get a Darwin award for walking on the road there, extra points for doing it in the rain probably.

That box lid artwork was the version for the American market. Presumably it was supposed to be 'typically English' with the Gents in bowler hats and brollys in the rain in London. Presumably there was a range of cars all with their natural background - say a 2CV with a beret wearing onion seller cycling past a vineyard or something!
The UK version has a much more cheerful sunny scene and a flatter more flimsy box.
Values are a bout the same and its interesting how many American market ones seem to crop up over here. (Well it is 'interesting' if you get interested in such things....

)

I was concerned about sounding a bit of an anorak there, but probably in good company
Got both versions in my collection. they are very different shades of green plastic too, but I'd better stop at this point.....

I don't know if anyone saw it but James May's top ten toy's was re- run on the telly, Dave Channel, James met Roy Cross the Airfix box art artist, he always added motion and action to his box artwork, untill some left footed parent organisation complained about the violence. Airfix then sanitized the box art and took away all the excitment and atmosphere from all the fabulous pictures. So the LCM tank landing craft doesn't look like its catching hell and high water on DDAY, it was sanitised so all the smoke and shell splashes were taken out. it then looked like they were landing at sunny Margate during the summer hols.

Here's the English version! Sorry for the blurry photo...
Instructions are different too, Us version refers to car as a 'Sedan' etc.
