Hi,

I was wondering if someone could tell me how easy it is to replace the tappet chest cover gaskets? Can it be done without draining the engine oil?

Apologies if this is very basic stuff. I don't pretend to know alot about engines!

Thanks,
-Neil

You should be able to do it without removing the carb and manifold. Use rubber gaskets, glue them onto the covers and do not over tighten the bolts

The neoprene gaskets really only fit the later covers - early covers use the cork gaskets. Note there is also a little rubber seal under the holding bolt head. Easy enough to change - but with cold engine - you don't want to be struggling round the hot exhaust manifold.

Earlier refers to 803 & 948 engines, later refers to 1098, the covers are a different shape

Ah yes, I wasn't sure. I understand some 1098 engines differ slightly depending on date, and was just double-checking. Neoprene will fit, and it's a simple job. I'm satisfied!

Thanks for the help, people. :D
