Original but bad, or new but good??!!

Post by bluemoggie1970 »

Hi, I would like to know your opinions.....

My seats in my traveller are the originals, however they have a couple of tears and a burn mark on one. I want the inside to look really smart.

Here's my question, what would you do? Replace with vinyl ones? Or would you keep the originals despite condition. Would the car value decrease if I added new covers?

Hi ask your self the question do I want to sell my car or keep it.
The value of any car is the price someone is prepared to pay
If you pick the right material recovering as little impact on the value unless you have kept everything else as original as poss.
A lot depends on who you might see as poss buyer. Some want everthing as genuine as poss while others prefer good quality
and are not bother if its original or not.
Still not sure why not leave everything as it is and put a set of good quality loose covers over the seats.

You say you want the inside to look really smart------ in which case, it's not looking good for the original seats!

Also ask yourself if you want comfort when you drive long distances. If so then consider replacing the front seats with something from Newton Commercial (if you can afford it) or a scrap car

change the seat covers but keep and sell with the car and leave it up to the buyer to change back if they want original do that with all your upgrades and anyone can return to original condition

Reading your original post it sounds like you want to improve the interior for your own use not for sale. In which case either find something from a scrapyard that will fit, or buy the replacement vinyl covers available from most morris suppliers. If your original seats are damaged/discoloured replacing them with good clean seats will only improve your car not devalue it. Anyone buying a car will choose one with a comfortable interior.

the other option is to find some original seats in the right colour that aren't split burnt or torn.
Finding them is getting much harder than it was 15 years ago, but someone will have some somewhere
