1954 series 11 speedo info wanted

Post by jcrtd »

Hi
I have a 1954 Series 11 traveller and would like to know if the speedo is the correct one. The one I have has 4 small lights, I assume they are main beam, charging light, oil pressure and indicators. The query is on the indicator light - do the semaphore arms use this light or is it a later unit for "flasher" cars? Also any ideas what the numbers on the dial are for and what they should be?
Thanks and a happy new year to all Minor people

The central speedo for the late Series 11 should have a serial no 511440109 and a TPM (turns per mile) of 1000 if the car still has the original engine/box/axle.
What is the serial no/tpm on your speedo?

My 56 has the 4 light speedo. It didnt have the indicator light wired up as the traveller would have had a timer switch for the semaphores. I have wired it up on mine now though.

How is progress with your traveller? Will it be ready for the national?! Im taking mine over again this year all being well.

Hi Mike
My speedo has the no 51 114 401 09 1000 which seems to fit the bill on your information. I don't think any of the mechanicals have been changed.

Hi David
I should have checked the wiring diagram if the speedo has four lights and the indicators have a timer. I was mislead by having another speedo in one of the boxes with only three lights should have realised that is not the correct one by the fact that the max shown is 90 mph and not 80 mph as on the correct one.
When is the national? I am hoping to complete the restoration by the summer.

Thanks for the replies
