Morris Minor Owners Club

One of our members requires the front suspension uprights & trunnions for his 1000 .

He has a family contact near London & was asking me where would be the best place to purchase new ones from. Exchange isn't an option due to his location (postage costs).

I've seen new & reconditioned advertised so I'm wondering how good the reco ones are?
Are they cut undersize with new trunnions?
Here, most reco are metal sprayed then recut but I've seen some wear very quickly .
Are the new ones made in UK, or are they Sri Lankan, or elsewhere?

Anyone with any experiences/preferences with Morris Minor places?

I have used the new swivels from ESM and found them to be of excellent quality. As Kevin says Bull Motif are very good.
If you use new components it may be necessary to fit new steering arms as well. The old ones can be a pig or impossible to remove (tapered fit and rust etc.).
I suspect all the recon. units ARE built up with weld and the threads re-machined to original sizes. I think all the old tooling to cut undersize threads has long gone but the undersize trunnions are still available.

I've used recon uprights as I don't intend to do high mileage. The trunnions are standard size. I've used both Bull Motif and B'Ham (see PM ;-)), and these days I am very happy to stick with Bull Motif.
I'm not sure about high wear rates but if it was a daily use moggy, I'd sleep a lot more soundly with new uprights. Lets face it if you do 10,000 to 20,000 miles a year you really do not want to do the job twice in a few years!

Scott, I would agree 100% with Kevin's post. I've used both ESM and Bull Motif.

I've used Bull Motif previously & would be happy to use them again, but Craig (our club member) was thinking of using the Morris Minor centre in London - mainly for convenience for his relatives sake.
I'll let him decide though.

I've seen reco metal sprayed uprights with undersize trunnions to get the threads back to how they should be. The only problem was that they didn't machine out the grease groove & it's near impossible to get any grease into them.

In NZ it's illegal to use recon units, but I don't know where it's the same over the ditch.
