conrod bolts

I am rebuilding my 1098 A series engine is recommended that i fit new con rod bolts when i put it back together?

This also applies to side valve engines as the bolts can stretch

I've never replaced them, and never had a failure.
They aren't the stretch bolts that get used in modern applications which should be replaced if they are too long.

I don't think the workshop manual suggests fitting new ones (I didn't) unless they have been over tightened or damaged?

If you are building a 'racing' engine - then yes! Otherwise - no. Just clean the threads carefully - drop of locktite - and torque them up correctly.
