Has it been done before?

I can't help but think it'd make the most awesome modded Minor.

Perhaps something for me to look into after University and paying off my student debt (of over £35,000) ;)

It'd be pretty complicated though I'm sure. Gearbox, reverse gear, driveshaft..?

It has been discussed but the minor is still quite a heavy car compared to many of the kit cars and the such usually fitted with them. Bigger engine, 4pot or custom chassis v8's are more common.
Btw nice picture, this is me form a few years back.[frame][/frame] And am also currently a student, 1st year mech engineering at brunel uni.

I would think that a bike engine wouldn't have enough torque to pull the Minor as even if it was stipped it is still a steel shell which is pretty heavy. You would have to rev the nuts off it to pull away from the lights.

Alex, I can't work out what class that is. It looks a bit like FA/ICA, but I suppose it could also be Formula Blue.

Looking through the videos - a car with a bike engine just doesn't have the same charm. Hmm, what is the lightest engine available at the moment with the greatest amount of power/torque?

I wanna make one so bad...

(As an aside, I'm currently in year 12. University soon..!)

Engines of choice would be Hyabusa, Blackbird (or X11), ZZR1400 or perhaps the latest K series BMW's. You need a fair bit of torque which these bigger bike engines have - albeit a bit higher up the rev range than a car. You really will have to shed some weight on the minor to make it worthwhile.
I certainly notice a drop off in performance on my Honda X11 when I have a pillion on board - and thats with 143rwhp and 90 lb foot of torque.

It is indeed formula blue, but not racing atm due to uni and minors.
Well if your still looking to fit it into a pretty standard chassis either ford zetec, kseries or 4age are the popular modern engines currently. But i've seen talk here and on kit car forums about the mx5 engine/ gearbox, but also the mazda rotary ****** engines. I may be wrong but i believe these to be quite high reving?

bit of info i found on the net about rx8 engine

230bhp one tested here being the more muscular of them. Full power isn't released until you reach 8200rpm, which sounds unbelievably high but is actually fairly modest for a rotary. The rev-limiter doesn't cut in until 9500rpm,

and the mx5 engine was built for turbo but never had it fitted so it can easily be turbo'd and you dont need to change anything internally

(this is what i have been told of other people and what i found on the net)

im currently on a 4-age build but you could possibly try a toyota 3sge engine... i think its very similiar to a 4-age and im pretty much at the same point as you guys im in year 13 and then doing mechanical engineering at wolverhampton UNI next year

Went to Brunel back in '91; (Chepstow Hall) and visited it last year - it had changed a lot. For example Faraday Hall was still being built in '91-92.

Just before i was born then I'm in mill hall which is one of the oldest i believe. And yea it has had a lot of redevelopment, I'm quite enjoying the uni

screw it, use a dodge tomahawk engine well basically a dodge viper engine but still its out of a bike so it is technically a bike engine...
