Books on bodywork

I am trying to learn how maintain my car properly. At the moment its in ok condition but I want to paint the underside and portect it from rust and then fix a few rust spots up top is there a book that will help the berginer by going through the basics that anyone knows of?

Haynes did (probably still do?) a bodywork repair manual which explains the basics. Your local library might have a copy. Failing that I think some Halfords branches sell Haynes books.

not sure if this is what you meant but, we were told that each year we should use a wire brush to scrape off the flakes of rust from the udnerside of the chassis and then to coat the chassis in old engine oil.

There must be one heck of an oil slick behind a treated car the first time out in the rain. :o
But then some minors leave an oil slick anyway. :wink:
