How do I tell if I have the correct size engine. It is supposed to be a series 2 803cc, but I have my doubts. It is a gold colour so possibly a gold seal engine. No timing marks that I can see. The coil is mounted on the bulkhead when I thought that it should be on the dynamo. The only number is on a plate and is: SRA3 R M56748 with the letters M D underneath. It also has no starter dog.
Any ideas you experts?

I've got a few pictures of series II engine bays. The coil is mounted on the scuttle and the engine is a sort of gold / brownish colour. 803cc engine no. 56748 should date from December 1953.
Does the car perform like an 803cc series II?
It should take about 50 seconds to reach 60 mph and have a top speed of only 61-63mph. Top speed in 3rd is only 42mph with the original 803cc gearbox.
