Fuel injectors

I have done some research but im still not 100% sure of what is necessary if fitting a fuel injected engine. Other than the obvious fuel injectors, it would seem you need to baffle the tank? Then have a high volume, low pressure fuel pump supplying a high pressure fuel pump to the injectors? Would this require higher pressure fuel lines or the such? Also a programmable/custom ecu to monitor the required sensors? And is fitting throttle bodies essential? And most of all is this all worth it or would it be cheaper/ easier to fork out for a set of twin carbs and manifold?

Yes.
Unless you have tuned every other part of the engine, and are looking for something else to do.

I have looked at doing this type of conversion semi seriously but it is a lot of work and comparitvely expensive and using a tuned 1098/1275 (twin carb, supercharged, turbo) could be better value for money. I guess it depends on the depth of your pockets and length of your arms and how long you plan to keep the car and of course what you want to use it for (road, track, both). You do need all the stuff you said plus a return fuel line and I think if you use a swirl pot you can use the original tank and most of it is available off the shelf either from Canems or kit car part suppliers and of course JLH. Also don't forget insurance costs these could be high for a modded minor.
I think in Practical Performance Car Magazine there was someone who adapted a BMW Motorcyle CHead to fit the A Series Block. It could have been a K100 but I can't recall it now.

Sorry forgot to say this will be done for probably a zetec or k-series, which of course are injected as standard. And will be an everyday fast road car so i need it to be drivable and reliable. And i'll be 21 by the time its finished so insurance shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Either use the complete kit from the donor car - or use carbs !

The k100 head has been used in a few minis. Particularly the 16v version. My step dad has the 16v version and cheap spares are hard to get because the mini boys have had all the 16v parts!

Im in the process of building a VR6 minor, heres a run down of whats planned for the fuel system
The stock tank is retained.
the tank output feeds a pump that originally fitted inside a tank as a lift pump, im making an adaptor to use it out of the tank. This feeds the swirl pot.
The swirl pot is a 500ml aluminium tank with 4 pipe fittings.
The first pump feeds the swirl pot through one fitting.
The lowest fitting in the swirl pot goes to a high pressure pump that feeds the main injector feed pressure line
The Fuel supply from the high pressure pump feeds the stock injector rail and injectors.
The fuel return from the injectors goes back to the swirl pot
The highest fitting in the swirl por is then connected back to the filler neck in the tank
In operation
Fuel is pumped from the tank into the swirl pot which acts as a sump for the high pressure pump. The High pressure pump feeds the injectors. After the injectors there is a restriction to maintain pressure, the excess fuel is then drained back to the swirl pot (sump for the high pressure pump). When the supply back to the swirl pot exceeds demand the additional fuel is returned back to the tank. By using the top fitting for this return it creates a self bleeding system.
The mini guys use the bike heads sometimes but they go for mad money!
Oh and im using Mgasquirt MS2 for the brains
