Dilema

Hi everyone, I have got a dilema, I am new to restoration and really havent got a clue yet. I have been offered a Moggy 1000 for princley sum of £50, and to be honnest i dont think its worth that. It is in a really bad way but i surpose thats the draw of it. It has stood open to the elements for the last 22 years and surprisingly the bonnet and the crome bits are ok, but thats it.

It is aprox 1955 and its plate is rare as it is 4 numbers and 2 letters, but unforunatly it hasnt got any registration documents with it. I am at a loss at the moment because I know its probably scrap but I do dearly want to save as much of it as possible.

So how much do I have to save for the car to keep the plate?
If I cant save the car can I transfere the plate?

Any help on any of the above will be greatfully recieved

Thanks Steve Coke

My understanding is that in order to transfer the plate the car has to have a current MOT.

well if you can tow it to a scrapper you'l get atleast £50 if you weigh it in so theres nothin really to loose from that point of view.

what you need to consider is whether the car is worth restoring to you, as if its as bad as you say you'l undoubtably spend more on it than your ever likely to get back.

as for the plate, well if its fell off the dvla register then if they re issue it to you it'l become non transferable & you'd need it to be mot'd to transfer it anyway.

Give it a miss, it'll put you off minors forever! Yes the car needs mot for transfer, but as mentioned in a previous post, it's possibly off the records anyway.

you could break it and sell the spares off it :D

Don't start with a heart breaker like that for your first Minor, it would put you off them for life. If you have the space to keep it you might find a lot of useable parts to put into a better starter car. As someone else has said the money is there for the scrap when you're done with it.

Post some photos up and we might be able to give you a better idea of how bad it is. Doesn't sound promising though :-?

When it gets to that stage you need a chain saw to cut down the trees growing through the floor.
