I have just read an article in Practical Classics saying that we should not use modern orange coloured antifreeze in older cars but only blue ethylene glycol e.g. Bluecoll. Any comments?

I don't know about using them, but I do know that they should not be mixed, as they don't get along w/each other.
IMHO, if a system is well cleaned and flushed, I don't think that there would be a problem using them.
Your experience may vary.

I would stick with blue if thats whats been used in it before!

Ihave heard reports that if red/blue are mixed it can turn to a gel!

The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs had an article on modern anti freeze which is Organic Acid Technology and is dyed orange. This has been known to cause gasket damage to older vehicles and they recommend using the older blue antifreeze.
