Duff condensers?

I was talking recently to a trader who suggested there is batch of duff A-Series condensers in circulation, with some owners getting just a couple of hundred miles out of the condenser before it starts to break down and cause a misfire.

OK, the guy was selling electronic ignition so some could argue he might not be objective. Yet his comment seems to support my own experience of the engine hesitating and cutting out, being difficult to restart and only behaving when a new condenser is fitted – until the same happens a few hundred miles later.

It's only in recent years that I've had problems with condensers. Prior to that I had just one failure in some 20 years of Morris driving (during which I didn't always replace electrical components as often as I should have!).

Have other people experienced similar symptoms that are cured with a new condenser?

There was a spate of bad capacitors on motherboards not long ago, I wonder if it was for a related reason?
