Hi all,
i am thinking of buying a fuel cat of a company on Ebay, which goes in the tank, to allow me to use unleaded fuel. The seller has loads of positive feedback, which is good, however i have heard some of these things don't work, has anyone had or used one with no problem? let me know as i would appreciate advice on this as i can't afford to fork out for hardened valve seats.
i have used System 4 on customers cars years ago which where in line and did a similar job so i think these should be fine, however i would like to hear from people who have used these.
Thanks
Andy

NONE of these things work! They are a complete rip-off. Don't do it! Your engine will be fine on unleaded - just set the exhausts to 15 thou gap - and check/reset every 3000 miles.

In independent tests, none of the catalyst products had any effect. If you want to use additives then stick to Castrol Valvemaster or similar products endorsed by the FBHVC. Other products are, in my opinion, just snake oil.

The ONLY one to make genuine leaded fuel is Tetraboost - it's the ONLY one with lead tetra-ethyl in the mix. Unless you plan on hammering the car on the Mway regularly - you really don't need anything.

surely if i have to keep resetting the tappets thats a sure sign the valve seats are burning out, however i will just use the additives, i have seen motors where unleaded has been used, taken the head of and the valve seats have disintegrated, so the valve clearances tighten up.
I have looked on my autodata software and it says unleaded can't be used, so i think i will stick with the additives.
Thanks for your advice on the Ebay cat i won't waste my cash.

Seriously - don't bother with the additives - most of them are useless. The A series works fine without ANY additives - and the worst that can happen is indeed that the valves recess slightly. As long as they are never allowed to close up - no problem. And just pick up another cheap head! Try it for 3000 miles and see what happens.
