Well, just about to set off to Leeds to pick up my "new" car, then the prospect of 240 mile return trip, I think I'll keep off the motorways for the moment and stick to A roads until I'm more familiar with its foibles![frame]Image[/frame]

Good luck with your Minor. I try to avoid motorways where possible, they take the pleasure out of driving.

Hope you had a "safe" and "uneventful " journey.
You will know the car at the end of it and have a mental list of things to look at.

Enjoy the lie-in tommorow !!

not the best of journeys, wet and foggy the first evening, compounded by the nearside headlight burning out. Stopped at Grantham overnight, and woke to fairly dense fog! cleared by the time I got about an hour further south when the speedometer stopped! not a problem I thought as I had my trusty GPS giving me a very accurate speed. Then decided to go through london rather than take the M25 and spent 3 1/2 hours sitting in traffic jams where a speedometer was no use anyway!
Got home at 3:30 and went to sleep for several hours. So work list identified:
negative earth conversion...
find out how to check speedometer and cable...
replace headlight, once I've got to grips with headlight construction... do I go in from the front or the back??
bodywork... nothing, all been done :D
wheels and tyres, fine
fit seat belts, felt totally vulnerable at some points
Rather a change from previous car, (Suzuki Swift Sport.. 125HP and 120 top speed) but makes for a more relaxing journey in some ways. much better ride, after fat wheels, 45 profile tyres and hard suspension settings[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

That looks like a very nice Minor! Headlight is very easy, if its the original type it will have a bulb you can replace. From the front take off the outer rim (remove a small screw at the bottom and pull off) then the inner bit is turned about 1/2" to the left and the headlight will come out to get at the bulb holder. Probably worth checking the headlight bullet connections under the bonnet to make sure they are all fitted properly and that the earth is connected to the body before removing the headlight.

Speedo is also easy, there are 2 small holes in the glove boxes that you fit a philips head screw driver through, then the speedo head can be pulled forward. Simply unscrew the the cable from the back to see what going on.

Lovely looking car :D Glad you made it home OK. Going through London rather than taking the M25 doesn't seem to be any quicker these days - both usually involve sitting in traffic for ages :(

With regards to your work list, all of the things that need doing have already been covered in threads here so use the search facility at the top right of this page and you should find all the info you need. If not, just post a message in the appropriate forum and you'll get a quick response. And if you haven't already got one it's worth getting a workshop manual.

Really tidy looking car. Can you tell us what it cost. Even in vague terms would help.
Thanks
Peter

Sorry if I'm speaking out of turn here.....

I recognised the trader, "Auto Disposals", from Ebay when I was searching for a Minor back in May / June. The car was a "classified" ad up at £3995 according to Ebay's archive. I could have sworn they had the same car up at a rather lower price back when I was looking. Memory must be playing tricks... :-?
