It's been a long time since I drove a car that had the potential to need tlc during my travels, but I'm picking up a 1959 948 engined saloon on Thursday. is there a set of tools that members would recommend, I'm thinking of a spare fan belt, set of appropriate size spanners, large and small screwdrivers, needle nose and square nose pliers, a set of bulbs, can of oil and some spare fuses

Search the forum for previous discussions on this subject - there's no end to the spares some people carry........ But ignition parts are very sensible and don't take up much space.

It is a dead cert that the part you are not carrying will be the one that breaks down. Most important spare is a breakdown recovery membership card

Some Insurers - RH for certain - include Roadside and Recovery in the annual cost.

You will need A/F and Whitworth spanners and sockets which you should be able to order from a decent tool shop

got the spanners, must be about my age, from my fathers first forays into motoring, also got the breakdown cover(thank you Footman James for such a great deal)

Cable Ties! Single most useful item you can carry!

A decent jack. There are some good small ones available that are easy to carry, the standard jack is not suitable at all.

Always carry a spare fuel pump if possible.

And a dizzy. And NEVER use the standard jack - it's just for show.......
