Re: sudden death :-(
Tom,
Could be the condenser or maybe the points gap has closed up. Have you checked to see if you are getting a spark at the plugs?

Re: sudden death :-(
Sure you didn't put diesel in.........
Otherwise - check for sparks - water on ignition - all the usual things.

Re: sudden death :-(
Well - look to the ignition circuit then. You obviously must get a spark - or there is no hope.

Re: sudden death :-(
What Roy is trying to say, but can't bring himself to is "it could be the coil"

"Once you break something you will see how it was put together"
Re: sudden death :-(
No no - it's 'never' the coil - I v nearly put that in above - in fact it was there and I rubbed it out!
Methinks you know me too well Marky !!

Re: sudden death :-(
engine is knackered, sorted the electrics and still nothing so did a compression test and it was 30 on each cylinder !!!!!!!!! i did it correctly, i then put oil down the bores and cylinder one was 70, 2 the engine didnt want to turn over and stoped at 30, 3 was 125 and 4 was 80, started to strip it down
how do i get the cylinder head of haha, it dosnt want to budge all the nuts are off is it just a case of leavering it off

Re: sudden death :-(
Have you removed the bypass hose from between the head and the water pump?

Re: sudden death :-(
Crank it on the starter but with the plug leads off and carb, and the head nuts on but done up loosely so what compression remains loosens the head but does not knock it off the block!
Cheers John - all comments IMHO
